Schedule update: Star Class

Finnlines will do its utmost to maintain the service level even in the present demanding market and weather conditions, despite the importance of cost savings.

Due to the feedback from the market and after negotiations with the customers the changes to the schedule have been re-evaluated.

The previously announced schedule will be changed as follows and it will take effect on 1 March, 2010.

New service Kotka/Helsinki - Gothenburg - Bilbao

As from January 2010, Finnlines opens three new ro-ro services:

between Kotka and Gothenburg
between Helsinki and Gothenburg
between Gothenburg and Bilbao

This is increasing the number of lines for rolling cargo in the Finnlines network by 20%.

This new regular liner service will be operated with two modern ro-ro ships, the m/s Finnmill and Finnpulp.

The transit time to Bilbao will be about 4.5 days from Finland and three days from Gothenburg. On their northbound voyages the m/vessels Finnmill and Finnpulp are calling the port of Antwerp.

In accordance with this arrangement, Finnlines will be offering additional capacity on the routes between Bilbao and Antwerp as well as between Antwerp and Finland.

Earlier this year Finnlines started a ro-pax service vessels between Poland and Finland, and between Poland and Germany to support passenger and cargo demands with the Star-class. These vessels call now altogether the ports of Helsinki, Travemünde, Rostock and Gdynia.

In October Finnlines deployed the m/s Transeuropa to the TransRussiaExpress service from Lübeck via Helsinki to St. Petersburg allowing to reach this gateway to Russia from all ports of call in the global Grimaldi network.

Traffic to Rostock to start on 1st of December, 2009

Finnlines will start its new Rostock traffic with Star vessels on the 1st of December

First departure with MS Nordlink.

On Tuesday, 1st of December Ms Nordlink will depart from Helsinki to Rostock. On the way it will call in Gdynia, Poland on the 2nd of December and will arrive at Rostock on Thursday, 3rd of December at 7 am.

There are departures from Rostock to Helsinki every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 5 pm. The departures from Helsinki to Rostock are on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, at 8.30 pm. Both departures will call at Gdynia. The Rostock Termila is on Ost-West-Strasse.

There will still be daily departures from Travemünde to Helsinki and back.

Finnlines ro-pax ships start calling at Rostock - Rostock-Gdynia-Helsinki line starts in 2009

Finnlines will include Rostock in its route network operated by Star-class ro-pax vessels. In the last quarter of 2009, the ships currently plying the route from Travemünde via Gdynia to Helsinki will also call at the German port of Rostock. The intention is to operate a regular liner service with two ships, thus connecting all three ports with three weekly sailings. The Star-class ro-pax ferries will continue their daily sailings from Travemünde to Helsinki where they arrive in 27 hours.

The new service will enable Finnlines to offer three ports on the Southern Baltic Sea as a gateway for transports to or from Finland: Travemünde as a port for Western Europe, Benelux and western Germany; Rostock for the south-eastern part of Germany and Southern and South-Eastern Europe; and Gdynia for goods flows to and from Poland and Eastern Europe. Consequently, Finnlines' logistics sector customers can optimise their cargo flows to and from Finland by choosing the most suitable port. Passengers will now also have an opportunity to choose the shortest route for their Finland trip and save time and petrol costs.

Upgraded Finland-Poland-Germany Service

Ten weekly departures on the Travemünde-Helsinki route, three departures on Helsinki-Gdynia and Gdynia-Travemünde routes

On 2 June, Finnlines is to open two new fast, reliable and comfortable Motorways of the Sea for cargo and passengers in the Baltic, between Finland and Poland (Helsinki-Gdynia) and between Poland and Germany (Gdynia- Travemünde), featuring three sailings per week each. At the same time Travemünde-Helsinki-sailings are increased from nine to ten per week.

Five Stars

All of the departures on the Travemünde- Helsinki; Helsinki-Gdynia and Gdynia- Travemünde routes are operated by the world’s largest ro-ro passenger ferries in terms of cargo capacity: the five “Star Class” sisterships, all of them built in 2006 and 2007. Each of these huge units can carry up to 4,200 lane metres of trailers, lorries, busses and cars while transporting in the maximum comfort and leisure to 500 passengers in 200 cabins.

Faster and safer

The crossing between Finland and Poland is takes only 19 hours, while the direct connection from Helsinki to Travemünde is completed in 27 hours. As for the Gdynia- Travemünde, the first Motorway of the Sea between Germany and Poland: the route is completed in 15 hours.

Helsinki-Gdynia-Helsinki

Departures from Helsinki, are scheduled on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, always at 20.30, with arrival to Gdynia the next day at 15.00. Northbound, the vessels leave the Polish port at 11.00 on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays and arrive to Helsinki at 06:45 the next day.

With superior characteristics, in terms of speed, cost, and low pollution, the Helsinki-Gdynia link is a real alternative for trucks that are today using the ‘Via Baltica’ on their way to or from Helsinki.

Gdynia-Travemünde

Finnlines is to break ground with this fi rst Motorway of the Sea set to connect Poland and Germany three times a week. The 15-hours long service is expected to help to ease the congestion on the motorway network connecting the two countries.

Travemünde-Helsinki

The largest motorway connecting Germany and Finland is to be upgraded for the second time in a few months and will offer as many as ten departures per week in each direction. Every day of the week there is a Star Class ship leaving Helsinki’s port of Vuosaari to reach Travemünde less than 27 hours later. These seven departures are complemented by three more sailings on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. On the northbound route, the direct sailing from Travemünde is at 3am with the remaining three departures set on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 16.00.

New weekly connection to Mediterranean

By mid-May Finnlines opens a regular weekly connection to / from the Mediterranean area. The service connects Finnlines' services with Grimaldi's EuroMed network in the Swedish west coast port of Wallhamn.

With this service and the newly opened hub-service from Helsinki to St. Petersburg, Russia, a whole new set of possibilities are created to link the Mediterranean destinations with those in the Baltic, particularly Russia

New connections with St.Petersburg

Finnlines Group connects its network (UK, Benelux, Spain, Denmark, Sweden and Poland) with the port of St. Petersburg via Helsinki by using the regular TransRussiaExpress (TRE) ro-ro liner service between Lübeck, Sassnitz and St. Petersburg. First departure from Helsinki will be on the 4th of May, 2009.

Ms Transeuropa will call at Helsinki every Monday on her way from Lübeck/Sassnitz to St. Petersburg. The vessel arrives at St. Petersburg on Tuesday morning.

The new Vuosaari harbour in Helsinki will be the logistics service centre for the traffic in Finland. In the Port of St. Petersburg we will call at the ro-ro terminal of ZAO First Stevedoring Company.

The new ro-ro service will create opportunities for developing your trade logistics between Russia and all ports served by Finnlines in the Baltic Sea, in the North Sea and in the Bay of Biscay area and, additionally, offers a connection with the global Grimaldi network.

TransRussiaExpress is a jointly operated service of Finnlines Deutschland GmbH, Lübeck and TransLog, St. Petersburg, it has been in operation since 1997.

Five Star service: Travemünde-Helsinki

Five Star service for Finnlines' Travemünde-Helsinki traffic

Finnlines, the main ferry operator between Central Europe and Finland (and Russia via Finland) will deploy five big, fast Star-vessels in the traffic from Travemünde to Helsinki and back. The new service will get going on the 14th of April, 2009, from Helsinki.

The departures will be more evenly spread during the week allowing for more flexible transportation planning. Also, due to later departure times in Helsinki there will be more time to unload and reload the transportation units enabling more efficient use of the equipment.

The drivers will have all the Star class services at their disposal: own lobby, washing machines, sauna, gym etc.

Finnlines is going to start a new weekly service to/from Immingham

- more choices for your cargo flow between Finland and the United Kingdom

The first departure from Helsinki to Immingham will be on February 28 and the first call at Immingham is on Tuesday 3 March 2009.

The new ro-ro service will then continue on the following weekly rotation:
