Finnlines Gateway

A new 24/7 self-service concept for trailer customers in Vuosaari harbour.

driver gateway night

Gateway is Finnlines’ self-service concept for transport companies and their drivers. It helps companies manage the movement of trailers to and from the port, and drivers can streamline port visits with their own mobile app. Gateway enables 24/7 trailer deliveries and pickups in the Vuosaari harbour (currently the only harbour where it is in use).

Gateway is for transport companies with a Finnlines Gate to Gate agreement. The subcontractors and drivers are added as users by the contracting company.

Transport companies

Gateway can be used to check export unit data in advance. If required information is missing, e.g., dangerous goods notification, the app flags it so the transport company can correct it during transit, reducing interruptions and driver waiting time at the gate.

The app provides

  • Import trailers: unloading time, status, and yard location
  • Export trailers: booking details and closing times
  • Real-time updates: unit status, yard locations, unloading schedules, and ship schedule changes
  • Direct communication: drivers can communicate about unit-related matters with their transport company and Finnlines

A dedicated interface lets transport companies monitor their own units and fleet, proactively fix missing information, and improve fleet utilisation by operating around the clock rather than being tied to gate opening hours. Only the company’s own trailers are visible in the app.

Transport companies can choose between two different operating modes for each driver:

  • Assigned units: units are assigned per vehicle/driver, or
  • Driver selection: the driver selects units by entering the trailer registration number

Common questions

How much does it cost?
No charge. Finnlines offers Gateway free of charge to its customers.

Does the driver need booking numbers?
No. The driver operates using the trailer registration number.

Is the driver app difficult to use?
No. It’s designed to be simple and to streamline the driver’s work.

What about damage on an import unit?
A damage reporting feature will be added in spring 2026, allowing drivers to take photos and report damage in the port area 24/7. Reports will be immediately available to both transport companies and Finnlines.
