200,000 people have travelled Finnlines’ Sweden–Poland route as it marks 2 years

Demand for the direct sea link between Malmö and Świnoujście continues to grow. Marking its second anniversary, Finnlines’ route has welcomed over 200,000 passengers and drivers – a milestone now being celebrated with additional departures in April.

Since launching its ferry route between Malmö and Świnoujście on April 10, 2024, Finnlines has transported over 200,000 passengers and drivers in its first two years of operation. To mark the two-year milestone, Finnlines is adding an extra Saturday evening departure from Malmö on April 18 and April 25, bringing the total to two departures on those dates.

“Reaching over 200,000 passengers and drivers in just two years is a testament to the strength of this route. We have seen a steady increase in demand as more discover the convenience of a direct connection between Malmö, a key hub in southern Sweden close to Copenhagen, and northern Poland, with easy access to Germany,” says Marco Palmu, Head of Passenger Services at Finnlines.

“To celebrate this milestone and thank our customers, we are pleased to add two additional evening departures in April, providing even more flexibility for upcoming journeys,” he adds.

4,800 pets on board

The route has quickly attracted a broad mix of travellers. In 2025, over half of the passengers were Polish, followed by Swedes, Germans, Czechs, Norwegians and Ukrainians. The passenger profile shows a strong representation of travellers aged 35–54, followed by children and youth aged 0–17, pointing to a clear preference among families.

The service is also a popular option for pet owners; about 5 per cent of all passengers travel with their animals, with 4,800 pets transported over the first two years.

Peak demand during summer months

Since its launch on 10 April 2024, the route has seen steady growth. More than 200,000 passengers and drivers have travelled the route, with peak volumes during the summer months. In 2025, July was the strongest month, followed by August. Passenger numbers during the summer increased by 39 per cent compared to the same period in 2024.
