Finnlines marks six months of its newly added Poland connection on the North Sea & Biscay Line
Finnlines has celebrated the six-month milestone of its new connection on the North Sea & Biscay Line at an event held on 12 December in Gdynia, Poland. Launched in June 2025, the weekly ro-ro service connects Gdynia directly with Belgium, the UK, Spain and Finland.
Through the global Grimaldi Group network, it also provides Polish customers with access to routes linking Europe to the Far East, the Middle East, the Mediterranean, West Africa, South America and the East Coast of the United States.
The event gathered around 70 participants in total, including industry representatives, partners, customers and media. Attendees received an update on the development of Finnlines’ North Sea & Biscay Line service, joined a guided tour of the Port of Gdynia and visited M/s Finneco III for an insight into Finnlines’ modern ro-ro operations.
Finnlines was represented at the event by Commercial Director Merja Kallio-Mannila, Line Manager Blasco Majorana and Managing Director of Finnlines Polska Sp. z o.o. Rafał Kwapisz, alongside Piotr Gorzeński, CEO of the Port of Gdynia Authority and Jerzy Majewski, CEO of OT Port Gdynia Ltd.

Low-emission freight service
The service is operated with three next-generation hybrid ro-ro vessels capable of carrying a wide range of cargo types, including ro-ro, breakbulk, containers, vehicles and project cargo. In addition, Finnlines offers 80’ mafi trailers with integrated rails, specifically designed for transporting trains, wind turbine components and other special cargo.
Each vessel has a cargo capacity of up to 400 trailers or 5,800 lane metres.
Finnlines modern hybrid vessels incorporate technical solutions that enable up to 90% reductions in CO2 emissions. Energy efficiency is enhanced through the use of lithium-ion batteries, solar panels, an optimised hull design and an innovative air-lubrication system. The Finneco vessels’ enhanced fuel-saving technologies, combined with a zero-emission solution while in port, offer significantly lower emissions per transported cargo unit than alternative seaborne connections.
The sister vessels Finneco I, Finneco II and Finneco III operating on the route highlight Finnlines’ and its owner the Grimaldi Group’s, strong commitment to sustainability and innovation.
