Finnlines meets with the Italian Embassy in Warsaw as operations expand
Shipping company Finnlines holds a continuous dialogue with the Italian Embassy in Poland to highlight its ongoing investments in the country, including a new stop in Gdynia on its North Sea rotation and rising passenger numbers on its Sweden route.

In the framework of a continuous dialogue with the Italian Ambassador to Poland and his staff, on November 4, 2025, Finnlines Line Manager and Managing Director, Rederi AB Nordö-Link, Antonio Raimo discussed in Warsaw the shipping company’s expanding operations and investments in Poland. Finnlines has operated routes between Poland and Finland for three decades and, last year, launched a new connection for freight and passengers to Sweden.
“Our new investments have enabled us to expand our presence in Poland with additional offices and larger local teams. We are also pleased to further strengthen and broaden our connections across the region. We also had the opportunity to discuss the current and upcoming challenges of the shipping industry, both in Poland and across the Baltic Sea, to ensure the continued development and success of Poland’s maritime network and the security of supply,” says Antonio Raimo, Finnlines Line Manager.
Strong growth on Poland–Sweden route
This summer, passenger numbers on Finnlines’ route between Świnoujście and Malmö rose by 38% compared to the same period last year, highlighting the growing interest in travelling across the sea between the two countries.
“We are delighted with the results and pleased that our route to Poland, which opened in April last year, has received such a warm welcome. We see great potential ahead,” says Marco Palmu, Head of Passenger Services at Finnlines.
In addition, from July this year, Finnlines added Gdynia to its weekly North Sea and Biscay service rotation, enhancing connections from Poland to European ports in Belgium, France, the UK, Ireland, Spain, and Finland. The service is operated by three state-of-the-art hybrid vessels equipped with modern technologies, including air lubrication systems, battery banks, and solar panels, enabling zero emissions while in port.
Fleet and service upgrades underway
As part of the Italian Grimaldi Group Network, which connects over 60 countries, Finnlines and the Grimaldi Group are committed to modernising their fleet and reducing environmental impact. This includes investments in new technology and modern ships across the network. Through Finnlines’ Green Lane initiative, customers on Finnlines’ routes, including those to and from Poland, can choose to use biofuels, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by up to 90%.
