Three of Finnlines’ freight-passenger vessels, sister ships Finnstar, Finnlady, and Finnmaid, operate on the route between Helsinki, Finland and Travemünde, Germany. Over the spring, their public areas underwent significant upgrades. Now, they are ready to welcome passengers for summer 2025 with a refreshed and modern look.

The refurbishment focused on enhancing the café and lounge areas, as well as upgrading the exterior deck.

“We have listened to our customers’ experiences and feedback. As a result, the public areas of our Star-class ships operating on the Finland–Germany route have been renovated to meet their wishes,” says Kristiina Uppala, Head of Customer Service of Passenger Services.

The Vista Lounge, often called the ship’s living room, has been completely renovated. It is now more inviting than ever, featuring cozy seating arrangements and sofa groupings by the windows. “The comfortable benches are perfect for relaxing and enjoying the sea views,” Kristiina Uppala continues.

Revamped Café & Terrace area

The café and lounge have been updated with a modern colour palette. Seating has been replaced, and sofas have been upholstered to boost comfort. Soft carpets have been added to enhance the cozy feel. On the exterior, the terrace has seen a significant  transformation: coverings have been renewed, a stylish teak deck installed in the sheltered area, and all terrace furniture upgraded.

“We added a variety of seating options –from cozy, sheltered nooks to open spaces ideal for enjoying the sea breeze,” says Kristiina Uppala.

The café’s menu has also been updated to offer an even more varied and appetising selection. On a thirty-hour journey, good food makes all the difference. Passengers can now enjoy options to suit every taste at the café, the bistro and the Mare Balticum buffet restaurant.

Colours and ambience – calm seaside living with a modern twist

The refurbishment draws inspiration from the ship’s original colour palette, now reimagined with fresh, contemporary tones. The result is a serene, nature-inspired atmosphere that reflects the rhythm of the sea and the relaxed mood of the passenger. Interiors feature soft blue shades and natural wood finishes, creating a sophisticated environment throughout the public spaces.

Passengers travelling in summer 2025 can also look forward to a range of onboard entertainment, including live music. More information about the program can be found here.

New vessels for the Finland-Germany route

Finnlines will further strengthen its Finland–Germany connections by introducing three new vessels between 2028 and 2029. These new “Hansa Superstar” class vessels are designed with a strong focus on comfort and the overall passenger experience. The design of the vessels is based on Finnlines’ Superstar class vessels, Finnsirius and Finncanopus, but will be adapted to the needs of the Finland–Germany route.

With the arrival of the new vessels, the current Star-class vessels will be redeployed to other Finnlines’ routes. Continuous investments in the fleet are integral part of Finnlines’ strategy to provide even better services to both cargo customers and passengers.
