The Northern Port of Paldiski – Paldiski Sadamate AS – is a trading seaport on the Baltic Sea that is a 100% privately owned. The land territory and the harbor area are in possession of Paldiski Sadamate AS. According to the laws of the Republic of Estonia, a port may be in possession of the respective water area (exercising long-term use rights) that allows it to control movement of vessels in that area. All the land territory is owned by Paldiski Sadamate AS. The Northern Port of Paldiski is the Estonian port closest to Europe.
Since 1 January 2011 the Northern Port of Paldiski has received a free economic zone status, which provided several benefits to cargo owners with regard to transportation of goods and vehicles. Port customers have an option of storing vehicles on the territory of free economic zone without paying customs duties and with compensation of the input VAT.
In order to simplify the procedure of moving cargoes to the Russian Federation Palsteve OÜ – the subsidiary stevedore company and a customs broker – have received the status of AEO (an Authorized Economic Operator of the European Union).
The Northern Port of Paldiski is a member of the Estonian Port Association, the Estonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Coordinating Council of Trans-Siberian Transportation.
